Article 1

Basic Provisions

  1. This measure governs the functioning of the Centers for Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University, hereinafter referred to as the "faculty".
  2. Centers for Doctoral Studies are established at the institutes of the faculty. The rules for their operation may be regulated by a decree of the director of the respective institute.
  3. The head of the Center for Doctoral Studies is appointed by the director of the respective institute, usually s/he is the chairperson of the subject board.
  4. The members of the Centers for Doctoral Studies are full-time students of the faculty's doctoral studies.
  5. The members of the Centers for Doctoral Studies are selected in the selection procedures for the duration of one year. The selection procedures for the Center for Doctoral Studies are governed by the Rules of the Selection Procedures of Charles University, provided that this obligation is stipulated by the Dean's measure. A student of doctoral studies may become a member of the Center for Doctoral Studies repeatedly.
  6. The members of the Centers for Doctoral Studies mainly deal with the fulfilment of study obligations within the framework of their doctoral study formulated in the Individual study plan. The highest priority is attached to the work on dissertation research and publication of its outcomes in high-quality scientific journals or publishing houses. Research activities focusing on the timely completion of the dissertation thesis represent at least 60% of the scope of work of a doctoral student.
  7. The Centers for Doctoral Studies may coordinate administrative activities related to the operation of doctoral study programs and the involvement of doctoral students in scientific and pedagogical activities. They may also provide advice to doctoral students in treating their grant projects. The scope of work associated with administrative duties, assigned by the head of the Center for Doctoral Studies, does not exceed 20% of the doctoral student's work in the Center for Doctoral Studies.

 

Article 2

Funding

  1. The Centers for Doctoral Studies are funded by individual institutes.
  2. In the event the members of the Center for Doctoral Studies have a net income ensured of no less than 16,000 CZK per month at the respective institute (this amount does not include a doctoral scholarship in accordance with Article 7 of the Rules for Awarding Scholarships at the Faculty), the institute may draw the funds earmarked for the support of the Centers for Doctoral Studies in the budget of the faculty.
  3. At each institute, a maximum of 6 members of the Center for Doctoral Studies may be supported from the funds earmarked in the faculty's budget. For the purpose of financing from the faculty's budget, the number of members of the Center for Doctoral Studies is decisive as to 1 February of the corresponding calendar year. The contribution to one member of the Center for Doctoral Studies is 30,000 CZK per year.
  4. The funds are allocated to the centers of the respective institutes in accordance with the approved budget of the faculty for the corresponding calendar year.

 

Article 3

Final Provisions

  1. This Dean’s Measure comes into force on 1 January, 2019.
