Institute of Sociological Studies (ISS)
At the Institute of Sociological Studies (ISS), students learn knowledge and skills in three related fields: sociology, social anthropology and public and social policy. As part of their studies, they address a wide range of topics and questions, for example, what is the nature of contemporary society, how is public policy and public administration created, what is the development of social policy and the civil (non-profit) sector; they learn about important figures in world sociology and sociological research, sociological theory, empirical research methodology, attitude and public opinion research, and the like. They further expand and deepen the acquired knowledge in areas such as social anthropology, human ecology, political and economic sociology, sociology of social identities and everyday life.
Part of the study are practical exercises and seminars in which students learn various techniques of collecting, processing, analyzing and interpreting sociological data or discuss theoretical issues of the study of society. Students can also focus on the analysis and possible solutions of various social problems, e.g. in the field of education, employment, healthcare or family policy.
