WHAT IS A STUDY AT FSV UK LIKE?
All programs at our faculty are internationally recognized, accredited by the Ministry of Education and follow the Bologna process. All students start their studies in October; we do not open spring intake.
The Bachelor programs are designed as three-year (but can be extended to up to six years). During the study, you must obtain 180 ECTS minimum, write and defend an academic thesis, and pass the final state exams. Upon graduation, you will receive your “Bachelor” title (Bc., equivalent to BA).
The Master programs are intended to be studied for two years (but can be extended up to five years). You are obliged to reach at least 120 ECTS, write and defend an academic thesis, and pass the final state exams to finish the degree and be awarded the title of a “Magister” (Mgr., equivalent to MA).
Several programs offer a double degree option, meaning that you will study one part of the program at FSV UK and the other part at another partner university (see the program page LINK for details). After successful graduation, you will then receive two diplomas.
We are also happy to be a part of four multi-university joint degree Erasmus Mundus Master programs that you can study all around Europe. The resulting diploma is then co-signed by all participating universities.
The Faculty of Social Sciences is comprised of five institutes that focus on specific areas of social sciences, and therefore also run the corresponding programs. However, most programs are handled in cooperation between multiple institutes to foster the interdisciplinary connections and create new approaches to solving current global issues.

WHAT DO OUR CLASSROOMS LOOK LIKE?
Our programs mostly keep the classrooms deliberately on the smaller side to allow the teachers to focus on each individual student. We are very proud to host a diverse student body of more than 100 nationalities. The class discussions, which are essential to exploring the humanities, benefit greatly from this variety, and the students are encouraged to challenge each other's point of view with many diverse shared experiences.
The smaller groups prompt students to work closely together in an international environment, while the flexible choice of electives allows them to network within other programs and with exchange students as well.

WHAT DOES OUR CURRICULUM LOOK LIKE?
We place a lot of emphasis on flexibility of the curriculum and on giving our students freedom to customize their study to their needs and interests.
Each program’s core consists of several mandatory courses that provide a foundation of basic concepts, skills and terminology to build on. Then, you can choose from a wide variety of electives to complement your goals, develop your specific competences, or sample possible areas of interest. The third and final part of the curriculum are the optional courses, which you can choose from any FSV UK program, or any other faculty of Charles University.
We believe that especially in the current age dominated by technology, the need for the humanities and the social sciences has only increased. We aim to help our students further develop their critical thinking, their ability to connect the dots, analyze complex problems within global context and apply creative, innovative solutions.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT PROGRAM?
Are you passionate about a specific field, but unsure how exactly to pursue it? One of the amazing aspects of social sciences is the sheer amount of different approaches and points of view you can take to explore them. Our programs offer many different combinations of social sciences and it may be difficult to choose the one that will be right for you.
