As you are moving to your second (and following) academic years, there are a couple of things for you to keep in mind to stay on top of your study.
-
What to do to continue your study in the next academic year?
In order to signal your interest to continue in the next academic year, there are two things you need to do:
Obtain enough credits during the academic year. How many credits are enough?
For Bachelor Students:- 45 credits to register in the second year of study
- 90 credits to register in the third year of study
- 135 credits to register in the fourth year of study
- 170 credits to register in the fifth year of study
- 170 credits to register in the sixth year of study
For Master's Students:
- 45 credits to register in the second year of study
- 90 credits to register in the third year of study
- 110 credits to register in the fourth year of study
- 110 credits to register in the fifth year of study
Request a validation check to signal your interest in continuing your study
- log into SIS
- click on SUMMARY OF EXAM RESULTS module
- click on the VALIDATIONS tab
- click on the first option [SUBMIT REQUEST]
This simple, quick step that we will ask you to do every September is how you let us know you want to continue your study. Once you submit the request, we will check the number of your credits and your mandatory courses, and greenlight your registration for the new academic year.
Note: Without this step, we will not be able to allow you to continue and your study will be terminated.
The final deadline to do this is September 30th, but we recommend doing it at the beginning of Sept, because you will not be able to see the courses for the new academic year in SIS and register for them.

Sign the tuition fee documents
Each academic year, the Dean issues a Decision on the tuition fee for the relevant year - the same as what you signed during your first year enrollment. This document simply stipulates that your tuition fee program is a paid one and we are obligated to sign it together for each year of your study.
During October/November, we will send you an email asking you to come to our office and sign the document. For students awarded a tuition fee discount, there will be one extra document to sign to confirm the discount.

Pay tuition fees
As you know, we generally split the annual tuition fee in two installments, one per each semester. The invoices for the relevant semester’s tuition fee is always sent out at the beginning of the semester, i.e. in October and in March.
Please address any questions or issues regarding the payments to eva.kapucianova@fsv.cuni.cz
WHEN IS THE INVOICE DUE?
The due date is always mentioned in the invoice itself. Usually, you will have 2-3 weeks to send the payment. In case of any problems, please make sure to communicate with us clearly so that we can work on a solution.HOW CAN I PAY?
All the instructions for the payment will be included in the invoice email. You can pay by card using the payment link provided, bank transfer, or pay in person here in the cash office. The payment portal link can only be generated in EUR
CAN I APPLY FOR A DISCOUNT?
If you are awarded the tuition fee discount, your invoice will already arrive with the reduced amount of tuition fee. You should also be informed prior by your program. Tuition fee discounts based on study results are awarded by the program and students cannot apply for it themselves. If you believe you should have been awarded the discount, please contact your program coordinator.
In case you do not take any courses in the new year, you might be eligible for a tuition fee reduction. -
Are you on track with your study plan?
The first glance at your study plan may seem a bit overwhelming, but when you pay a bit more attention to it, you will figure it out in no time. Here is a quick guide on how to make sure you are on track and not missing anything.
We recommend checking this at least once a year!
- Check your program’s structure to learn what is expected of you
Go to your program’s Karolinka website and study the paragraph at the top of the page called “Program structure”. Here you will find the information on how many credits you need to obtain in each category. - Log in to SIS to perform a check of your study obligations.
This is an invaluable tool that will tell you exactly where you stand with your study plan.
Open the Summary of exam results module where you normally check your grades. Go to the tab called “Overview of plan fulfillment”. Under “Request for validation”, choose before final state examination from the drop down menu. - Read the check and don’t get scared of the “failed” labels! If you have a few more semesters to go before your final state exams, you will of course not have fulfilled all the requirements yet.
You will see:
- how many credits you have and how many you need to finish your study
- how many of your compulsory courses you still need to take
- how many of the electives you are still missing + if there are any special groups of electives, what still needs to be taken
- Check your program’s structure to learn what is expected of you
-
How to prolong your studies if needed?
The Bachelor programs are generally intended to take 3 years, while the Master programs are designed for 2 years. However, it is not uncommon for students to need more time to fulfill all study requirements - perhaps you took an Erasmus exchange semester abroad, or maybe you want to spend extra time on your thesis.
There is no special request or form you would need to submit - simply request the study obligation check at the end of the academic year and we will register your study in the next year.
Please keep in mind that students registered for the new academic year are obligated to pay the tuition fee. In case you do not take any courses in the new year, you might be eligible for a tuition fee reduction: more information here.
