International Security Studies (MISS)
International Security Studies (MISS)
This programme responds to the pressing agendas of the current security environment and offers students a complex guide through security, conflict and strategic studies. The programme respects the multidisciplinary dimension of contemporary security studies that face analytical challenges in traditional as well as non-traditional domains. Therefore, students will obtain theoretical and methodological training allowing them to address security issues ranging from conventional conflicts and wars to unconventional agendas associated with cyber or space realms. Graduates of the programme are prepared to pursue careers in security-related posts in government offices and public administration, intelligence agencies, international organizations, NGOs, etc. Students can choose one of four specializations during the enrollment for the study: (i) Peace and Conflict Studies, (ii) Strategic and War Studies, (iii) Global and Regional Security, (iv) Security and Technology, or select a General Security Studies track.
The programme offers two double degree options in cooperation with (1) the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Konstanz, Germany; and (2) the Department of Security Studies and Criminology at Macquarie University, Australia. Thus, the selected students can simultaneously obtain a Master's degree in another prestigious Western university, in addition to the Master's degree in International Security Studies from Charles University. Applicants for each double degree programme are selected, based on merit, after the first semester of their studies.
Application submission deadlines
Preliminary deadline: 30 June 2025
Extended deadline: 31 August 2025
Important note for visa-seeking students: Please read about the visa process carefully before applying. You are responsible for organizing your legal stay in Czechia and the visa application process can get quite lengthy. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to obtain the visa in time because the June and August deadlines are fairly close to the start of the academic year on September 29, 2025. The extended deadlines are therefore strongly recommended to students who already possess the legal right to long-term stay in Czechia.
