Tomáš Havránek's project was nominated for the Prize of the Chairman of the Czech Science Foundation (GACR)

Prof. Tomáš Havránek from the Institute of Economic Studies received the nomination for his project Meta-Analyses of Returns on Financial Investment Management Strategies in the category of social sciences and humanities. Other researchers from FSV UK also collaborated on the successful project – i.e. Jiří Novák, Jiří Schwarz and a recent doctoral graduate Mohammad Ali Elminejad Anjileh.

For this project, Tomáš Havránek already received an honorary recognition from the GACR for the excellent results of the research project in May this year. The project aimed to review previous research on the performance of active mutual funds, smart-beta funds, hedge funds, private equity funds and the impact of management skills and investor activism. The results will be useful both for investors when choosing how to invest their savings, and for market regulators when evaluating the efficiency of financial markets.

The prize of the Chairman of the GACR is awarded annually for extraordinary results achieved in the solution of grant projects completed in the previous year. Based on the recommendations of several hundred scientists, 15 projects were nominated this year – three from each of the five areas of basic research. Only one researcher from each area will receive the award. Prize winners will be announced on October 8, 2024.
