Summer School 2022 Social Gaming: Call for applicants

Call for applicants is open for Summer School 2022: Social Gaming. From Cooperation in (Online) Gaming to Game Co-Creation organized by Universities of Konstanz, Germany, and Utrecht, Netherlands

While research in media and cultural studies as well as in social science often focuses the problematic use or the stereotypical user groups of digital games, recently some scattered studies can be found drawing  to the social (added) value of digital gaming. In the Summer School Social Gaming. From Cooperation in (Online) Gaming to Game Co-Creation you will play together, explore your gaming practices and describe new ways in the field of co-creative game development.

The Summer School on Social Gaming is organized by researchers and teachers (media, art, cultural and social sciences, computer science) from the Universities of Konstanz (Steffen Bogen, Christian Meyer, Beate Ochsner, Markus Spöhrer) and Utrecht (Hanna Hauptmann, Stefan Werning) as well as the independent game developer Frank Furtwängler. An accompanying program around Lake Constance will round off the event.

The Summer School consists of two parts: A virtual part from April to June 2022 (self-study + 3 online sessions), and a one-week onsite class, taking place at the University of Konstanz in July (24-30 July 2022).

Students of all study levels (B.A., M.A., PhD) and disciplines interested in research on digital games are welcome to submit an application for participation. The cost for accommodation and travel will be partly covered (depending on home country) for international students by way of a DAAD-scholarship.

All information about the application can be found in the Call for Applications. Application deadline: 20 February 2022.
