Statement of FSV UK on the situation in Israel

The attack on the civilian population in Israel once again showed the monstrosity of terrorist thinking and actions. Our thoughts are with the victims of violence. The escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict unfortunately shows the seriousness of the current international situation and the reprehensible tendency to use non-discriminatory violence in order to achieve political goals.

We monitor the security situation especially with regard to our students and academics, including those who resided or reside in Israel. Due to the extreme nature of the attacks, we offer all members of the academic community who are personally affected by the situation maximum support and psychological help.

As a social science workplace, we feel a special responsibility to provide professional reflection of these tragic events. Acknowledgement therefore goes to all colleagues who provide comments within the framework of their expertise on the situation in Israel and thus represent the faculty in a public space. It is crucial for FSV UK to remain a place where the guaranteed free academic discussion excludes and condemns any manifestations of political extremism.
