FSV UK Researchers won the prize for the best article of the year in the prestigious journal Experimental Economics

Tomáš Havránek and Zuzana Havránková, researchers from the Institute of Economic Studies won the Editor's Award for the best article published in the journal Experimental Economics in 2022 from the Economic Science Association (ESA).

They worked with IES graduate Jindřich Matoušek on an article entitled Individual discount rates: a meta-analysis of experimental evidence. The text was published in 2022 in the 25th issue of the aforementioned prestigious scientific journal focused on experimental economics.

In this research, the IES team analyzes the results of 56 experimental studies that estimate discount rates – that is, how much people value the present at the expense of the future. "This is an important parameter for climate change measures, for example. We find that people are less patient when it comes to health than money. The results of laboratory experiments differ considerably from so-called field experiments. Our results also show that higher and statistically significant discount rates are easier to publish," Havránek says about the research.

Congratulations on your success!
