History and Area Studies (HAS)

History and Area Studies (HAS)

The programme focuses on modern history, culture, and politics with respect to Czechia in Central European and global context. It combines education in history and area studies with active training of the Czech language. It is organized and executed by the Institute of International Studies (IMS) in cooperation with the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies of the Charles University.

The programme is designed to equip students with Czech language fluency, cultural competence, historical knowledge and social understanding of Central Europe. It greatly enhances the student’s ability to consider issues from an interdisciplinary perspective and to conduct research and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Application submission deadlines

Early bird application deadline: 28. 02. 2025

Regular application deadline: 30. 04. 2025

Important note for visa-seeking students: Please read about the visa process carefully before applying. You are responsible for organizing your legal stay in Czechia and the visa application process can get quite lengthy. For students from visa-seeking countries, the early-bird deadline is therefore strongly recommended.
