ICSJ launches ERC-funded research into children’s experiences of information text
Since this September, Anežka Kuzmičová, Markéta Supa and colleagues are conducting research at ICSJ investigating how children experience information texts such as encyclopaedias and how they enjoy this type of literature. Last year Anežka Kuzmičová’s project, WONDRE (Ways of Imagining in Children’s Lives with Information Texts), won the prestigious ERC Starting Grant amounting to 1.5 mln EUR, making her historically the first ERC grantee within the humanities and social sciences at Charles University.
While children are often seen as fiction fans first and foremost, Kuzmičová notes that many find equal, if not greater, enjoyment in reading factual information. Information texts can provide not only satisfaction in understanding but also the opportunity to explore a variety of topics and discover the world through data and interesting facts.
