FSV Develops New Tools to Measure Broadcast Balance

The project, funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, whose researchers are the Faculty of Social Sciences and Newton Media, is entering a phase of implementation these days. Its aim is to develop new tools that will contribute to a more accurate measurement of objectivity and balance in radio and television, especially in pre-election periods. At the end, there will be a detailed methodology for carrying out a quantitative content analysis of broadcasts, which will now take into account the rather neglected legal and normative requirements for this type of broadcasting.

The FSV project is implemented by the Centre for Media Studies (CEMES). “Our workplace has been trying to contribute to the cultivation of the media sector for a long time, getting the TA CR grant to a higher level. We can focus on the subject of measuring objectivity and balance more intensively and in the longer term, moving it together with the application guarantor to the stage of development of a new methodology that is very needed by Czech broadcasters and regulators. In addition, it is a topic closely watched outside the academic and journalistic community, and we cannot wait for another round of consultations with the professional public, ”said project leader, PhDr. Jan Křeček, PhD.
