Science at FSV UK: Prof. Kennan Ferguson explores power in everyday life, food, and community
Politics isn’t just about elections, governments, or party lines – it’s in what we eat, how we feel, and the ways we relate to others. In this interview, Professor Kennan Ferguson of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, currently a Fulbright Distinguished Scholar at FSV UK, challenges conventional ideas of politics, showing how power shapes everyday life. Prof. Ferguson will present a public lecture on the topic of On the Political Ethics of Debt on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 6:30 pm in room C117 at the Jinonice Campus. -
Only the second time in history: Scientists from FSV UK participated in a study published in the journal Nature
Scientists from the Institute of Economic Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University – Prof. Zuzana Havránková, Prof. Tomáš Havránek and Dr. Jaromír Baxa – participated in a study published in the prestigious journal Nature. They are building on the success from 2022, when FSV UK economists published in this journal for the first time. This is only the second social science study in the history of Nature with the involvement of Czech scientists – in both cases, researchers from FSV UK. -

Science at FSV UK: Researcher Klára Kosová on trust in democracy and the connection between political science and neuroscience
Dr. Klára Kosová from the Institute of International Studies FSV UK combines political science, cognitive linguistics and neuroscience in her research, observing how the values that hold democracy together are formed in people’s minds. Her dissertation, awarded cum laude at the University of Groningen, shows that elections alone are not enough — what is crucial is how each of us approaches democracy.
