Jan Hornát has served as the Head of the Department of North American Studies since April 2019. His current research focuses primarily on U.S. foreign policy, transatlantic relations, and the role of status in international relations. He has published in scholarly journals such as Survival, Journal of International Relations and Development, International Relations, Communist and Post-Communist Studies, Cambridge Review of International Affairs, Global Affairs, and The National Interest.

He also works as a researcher at the university-based Peace Research Center Prague. His monographs have been published by Routledge and Palgrave Macmillan. From 2022 to 2023, he was a Fulbright-Masaryk Visiting Scholar at the School of Public and International Affairs at North Carolina State University. In the summer of 2024, he was a visiting researcher at the University of Regensburg.

Previously, he served as a department head within the European Programs Unitof the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic. Between 2019 and 2021, he was also a member of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University.
