MeDeMAP project roundtables at the European Parliament

On 13 January 2026, the EU-funded MeDeMAP project organised two dissemination events in Brussels as it enters its final phase. The morning seminar, Regulating Media for Future Democracies: Political and People’s Voice (9:30–11:30), took place at the European Parliament and featured two roundtables: one on the next steps following the EU Media Freedom Act (EMFA), and another on what European citizens can contribute to EU media policy. The latter drew on insights from citizen parliaments organised by MeDeMAP in Austria, the Czech Republic, Ireland, and Slovenia, and included discussion with Members of the European Parliament.

In the afternoon (14:00–17:30), a second seminar titled Mapping Media for Future Democracies was held at the Learning and Innovation Centre of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. It consisted of a debate on journalism and democracy, followed by a hands-on workshop presenting the MeDeMAP multi-layer map of European political information environments. The audience included journalists, researchers, civil society representatives, and media professionals.

Researchers from the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism FSV UK participated in both events, contributing to discussions and presenting findings from the Czech Citizen Parliament. These events marked an important step in sharing MeDeMAP’s research outputs with policymakers and practitioners, with further dissemination activities planned as the project moves toward completion.
