The Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, has two new professors
On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, in the Great Hall of Carolinum, President Petr Pavel presented the appointment decrees to the professors he appoints on the proposal of the scientific and artistic councils of universities. Of the 69 appointed, 23 were new professors from Charles University.
FSV UK has two new professors:
Prof. PhDr. Jozef Baruník, Ph.D. in the field of Economic Theories
Economist and expert in financial economics, time series and quantitative methods from the Institute of Economic Studies FSV UK. He deals with high-frequency data, economic modeling and machine learning in finance. He is one of the most cited economists in the Czech Republic and has received a number of prestigious grants and awards. In 2024, he served on the panel of European Research Council (ERC) grant evaluators.
Prof. Dr. phil. Rudolf Kučera, Ph.D. in the field of Modern History
Historian of modern history from the Institute of International Studies FSV UK. He also serves as the director of the Masaryk Institute and Archives of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He deals with the history of war, labor, violence, and the socio-cultural history of Central Europe in the 19th–20th centuries. He has extensive international experience, has directed numerous research projects, and has received significant awards for his scientific publications.
