Debunking Disinformation: A Training Programme

Learn the latest tools and tactics for identifying fake news, disinformation, propaganda and information operations from top experts in the field.

Get essential professional skills that are currently desperately needed in domestic and international newsrooms and by other teams working on analysis of online trends and behavior.

Transitions (TOL), a Prague-based journalism trainer and publisher, is seeking participants for a semester-long course in information verification starting in March 2018 and lasting through June 2018.

Through training in the latest online tools and techniques, the course will provide future reporters, researchers, and other relevant practitioners with the means to effectively recognize disinformation and propaganda and to expose inaccuracies. Participants will also gain a background in the roots of disinformation and how it works.

Top local and foreign instructors will lead a 3-day intensive workshop and 5 sessions of an online course. The most motivated participants will also get a chance to apply for a 7-day intensive bootcamp on coding, data visualisation, and social network analysis.

3-day workshop for students:

12th – 14th March 2018: Prague

14th – 16th March 2018: Brno (or) Olomouc (place to be specified)

5 online evening lectures (90 minutes)

1 per week in April and May 2018

Coding Bootcamp (BONUS for selected participants):

25th June 2018 – 1st July 2018: place to be specified

Participants will be required to attend all parts of the workshop. Only the top participants will be selected to attend the bootcamp.

The course is FOR FREE and TOL will cover all travel expenses for attendees.

Applicants should be preferably from a master’s program (or in the final years of their studies), either in journalism or media studies, or other relevant fields such as political science, security studies, international relations or other. However, the main selection criteria will be a proven motivation to use the acquired skills in practice. Fluent English is a requirement.
