Spring University Prague 2018: Understanding Europe in an Age of Uncertainty

Organising institution: Institute of International Studies, FSV UK

The objective of this academic course is to provide students with a broad understanding of the most significant political and social issues in contemporary Europe. This study programme is internationally acknowledged, successful participants will be given 8 ECTS credits. The course provides an interdisciplinary approach and combines multiple learning methods, such as lectures, workshops, round-table discussions, field work, group-work and student presentations. Moreover, there will be numerous free-time activities that will provide participants with a chance to enjoy the wide range of attractions that Prague has to offer.

Dates: 8th to 19th April,  2018

Application deadline: 22nd February, 2018

Tuition fee: 860 EUR. This programme fee includes: tuition, social and cultural events, on-line reading materials, accommodation in the dormitory, breakfasts and lunches, advice and help of our team during your stay in Prague.

Summer Seminar on Nationalism, Religion and Violence in Europe

Organising institution: Institute of International Studies, FSV UK

The seminar is organised by Charles University and Aristotle University (AUTH), Thessaloniki, and supported by the Centre Français de recherche en sciences sociales (CEFRES), the University College London (UCL), the University of Birmingham, and the Humboldt University of Berlin. The sixth year of the Summer Seminar will take place in Prague between 18th to 29th June, 2018, with a special focus on the topics of ethnic and religious diversity, migration, and transformation.

A key goal of the next Summer Seminar is to contribute in a substantial way to the study of violence and to catalyse the growth of the study of violence as a field. The Summer Seminar targets students and graduates of Political and Social Science, History, Ethnic and Religious Studies, Philology, Journalism and other related disciplines. It brings together lecturers from the most prestigious institutions, this year for example from the Humboldt University of Berlin, Central European University (Budapest), the University of Birmingham, the University of Manchester, the University of Graz, the University of Pennsylvania, Aristotle University (Thessaloniki), Eötvös Loránd University (Budapest), the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and Charles University.

Dates: 18th to 29th June,  2018

Application deadline: 28th February 2018: priority deadline, 31st March 2018: deadline for those needing visas for the Czech Republic, 30th April 2018: final application deadline

Tuition fee: 750 EUR. In 2018, limited number of fellowships will be offered to junior researchers from Ukraine, Russia, Moldavia, Belorussia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Europe in Troubled Times: Destructive Forces of Secession and Instable Neighbourhood

Geopolitics was for a long time forgotten and omitted way to analyse the international politics. With the return of revanschism, annexation as a political tool, or creation of un-governed and unrecognized territories its prominence as analytical tool comes back into spotlights.

The Geopolitical Summer School teaches students to:

  1. become familiar with concepts theories of Classic, Realpolitik Geopolitics, NeoClassic Geopolitics. Critical Geopolitics and Russian Geopolitics
  2. understand geographic limits and potential of power
  3. analyse current geopolitical trends and threats
  4. understand the situation in particular region and external players

Prague Summer School of Journalism 2018

Cross-Platform Foreign Correspondence

Organising institution: Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism, FSV UK

During the summer course, students will have a chance to explore and experience the life of a cross-platform foreign correspondent. Foreign correspondence occupies one of the most prestigious positions within journalism, being rapidly transformed by the emerging technologies. Within the two-week-long professionally and academically guided simulation, students will be reporting about the Czech Republic and Central Europe back to their countries and internationally in a number of formats and across multiple platforms.
