Current full-time students: State exams & Graduation

I want to go to the State final examination in the summer of 2020. When is the deadline for fulfillment of all study obligations, registration for the State final examination, and submission of Bachelor’s / Diploma thesis?

For the students of the IES institute, there is no extension on deadlines, the deadlines originally set in the Academic Calendar are valid:

  • Submission of Bachelor’s and Diploma thesis: May 7, 2020
  • Registration for the State final examination (Bachelor’s + Master’s): May 7, 2020
  • Fulfillment of all study obligations: May 29, 2020

 For the students of other institutes, there are extended deadlines as follows:

  • Submission of Bachelor’s and Diploma thesis: May 21, 2020
  • Registration for the State final examination (Bachelor’s + Master’s): May 21, 2020
  • Fulfillment of all study obligations: June 12, 2020

I want to go to the State final examination in autumn 2020. When is the deadline for fulfillment of all study obligations, registration for the State final examination, and submission of Bachelor’s / Diploma thesis?

The deadline for Submission of Bachelor’s and Diploma thesis and Registration for the State final examination in Autumn 2020, as well as for related fulfillment of all study obligations is July 7, 2020, as stipulated by the Academic Calendar.

 I am a student of one institute but the supervisor of my thesis comes from another institute. Which deadline applies to me – the one of my institute or one of the institutes of my supervisor?

Can I submit a bachelor's and master's thesis electronically? If yes, does it apply to all the institutes?

According to the Dean's Measure no. 5/2020, it is now possible to submit the bachelor's and master's theses electronically to the Student Information System, printed versions will not be required. The rule affects the summer and autumn dates of the final state exams and defenses.  

What about the final state examination and defense of the thesis, will it be online?

According to the Special Rules of Study at Charles University, it is now possible to carry out state final examinations, state rigorous examinations, or parts thereof, as well as state doctoral examinations and the defense of doctoral dissertations ("state examinations") in distance form. When will the state exam take place? Will they be delayed?

State exams will probably take place in the original terms. The range of dates must be announced one month in advance and specific dates 14 days in advance. See the Academic calendar

How can we get a diploma or graduation certificate if we can't come back to Prague?

The diploma and its supplements may be sent to a student following his/her signature of Full power legal document which needs to be delivered to the international office. For more information please contact the student’s office (degeeprograms@fsv.cuni.cz).

Will Charles University libraries stay open?

The libraries of CU have been open from April 20, 2020, to the extent and in the regime set out in the Communication of April 17, 2020. The operation of FSV UK libraries stays the same, see more information here.

Will student residence halls and refectories remain open?

Following the government resolution, dormitories shall fully re-open to students from April 27, 2020. From this day on, students who have availed themselves of the discount on accommodation will be able to return to the dormitories.

The discount will be maintained for the period of April 2020 for students who have availed themselves of the dormitory discount. The full price of accommodation in dormitories shall be reintroduced and charged from May 1, 2020.

The possibility of terminating accommodation contracts without penalty with a reduced notice period of 15 days shall be retained if students avail themselves of this option by May 15, 2020. Applications will be accepted up to the end of April 2020 or the middle of May 2020, with the proviso that applications received at the end of April will result in the termination of the accommodation contract as of May 15, 2020, and applications received by May 15, 2020, will result in the termination of the accommodation contract as of May 31, 2020.

Exchange students: Erasmus +

 I heard that we can only apply for Erasmus one time. If I complete this stay, no matter if it's online, am I eligible for the second placement?

It is possible to undergo stays of at least 90 days at one of the partner universities. The maximum length of a study stay within a study cycle is 12 months. So you can apply for the second placement if you don't exceed the settled limit.

 For those who have started Erasmus in January 2020, can they extend their stay for the next semester (only if the situation allows though) or apply again for the future semesters?

When will the faculty exchanges start and how do we apply to colleges?

For the people that couldn't go to their outgoing mobility this semester, will there be theoretically a possibility to go to their mobility next semester?

When will the borders of the Czech Republic reopen?

The official approach of the Czech government to the topic of opening/closing of borders may vary in time and so the answer may be changing from day to day. Please consult each time the current official information on the website of the Ministry of the Interior. You may need to search for it a little bit on the websites.
