Academician for the Department of German and Austrian Studies

The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University is looking for an academician for the Department of German and Austrian Studies at the Institute of International Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University.


Each candidate must have:

  • higher education in the field of history
  • Ph.D. from the field of history with the perspective of early habilitation
  • experience in teaching and scientific activities in the areas of: political, social, economic and cultural history of Germany and Europe from the 19th century to the present
  • residence in Germany in the last two years before the application was submitted
  • readiness to relocate to Prague for the duration of the contract
  • excellent knowledge of German and English in both spoken and written form (level C2, or native speaker)


We offer:

  • expected workload at the time of admission: 0,5 (20 hours/week) for two years with the possibility of extension for up to five years
  • expected commencement day the 1st of October 2021
  • job description: German-language and English-language lectures and courses, supervision of final theses (bachelor's, master's and dissertation), organizational tasks, scientific activities and establishing cooperation with foreign research institutes
